BENOUALID Franck
: Print biography
Franck Benoualid was born in Toulouse, France in 1959 and studied painting as a self-taugh. Today, Franck Benoualid is one of France’s recognized young artist. Inspired by the work of the classic Masters, Benoualid has developed his own voice, which combines elements of abstract and figurative methods.
The paintings of French artist, Franck Benoualid, reveal a desire to melt, to dissolve the individual into his or her environment. Benoualid’s sumptuous nudes, painted over a period of years, are often anonymous: practically headless at times, or with faces that are featureless or mannequin- like. His superb shapes seem to extract themselves from decrepit surfaces, like old walls covered with deteriorating graffiti. He creates distorted bodies which are juxtaposed with a palette of both subtle and brightly splattered colors. Many of his paintings are concerned with the emotions of sexual passion, guilt and betrayal.
Benoualid captures our most introspective moments, those times we are most alone with ourselves, those times we are most connected with others. His figures pulsate with a life all their own, aglow with a strange appeal.
Benoualid’s canvases are nothing less than intense. He blends color and line to create tension to each piece, while earthy, organic tones provide insight to his vision of reality. The artist represents his personal expression and his belief in the ability of paint to convey feeling.
Benoualid’s figurative distortions, coupled with his extraordinary, emotional colors, call attention to the push-pull tensions of life. Benoualid’s work is included in many fine collections, including: Paris Salon International, San Paulo; Art Japan, Tokyo; Paris Country Club; and The Nevill Collection, London.
