LAXER Monique
: Print biography
As a native of Montreal, I studied classical homeopathy, psychic energy medicine and art. I studied at the Saïdye Bronfman Center taking classes in drawing, watercolour, painting and photography, from 1986 to 1989, then went on to participate in painting workshops with Montreal artist Charlotte Rothenberg, who guided me for several years giving me the confidence to start on my own six years ago. Since 2001, I have devoted a great deal of time to painting in my studio, which I share with another artist.
I am very much interested in texture, and I am constantly working with mixed medium using paper on canvas mixing oil, pastel, ink, collage, gold leaf, etc. This is how I discovered Japanese paper and handmade papers. The effects of these various media on the paper fascinate me. I focus on human expression; I love figurative work and bright colours strike a sensitive chord in me.
Painting now occupies an important place in my life. It allows me to get in touch with my spiritual self, using my inner guidance, trusting in the ever-changing creative process of life. Finally painting for me is a privilege; I have great esteem for this inner source that guides me, the results I share with all Art lovers.
